India weighed down the gallant French team (8-1) making its way to the 30th Olympics to be held at London in July-August of this year. India won the finals of the Hero FIH Road to London Tournament, held at the Major Dhyanchand National Hockey Stadium Delhi, last night. The home team led the French invaders by 8-1, qualifying themselves to the Olympics which they missed 4 years ago. India showed up a great performance in the tournament by remaining undefeated and gaining its position at Olympics.

Last night a great performance of our Indian hockey team was witnessed by the world, with those amazing 8 shots into the opponent’s goal. Sandeep Singh scored 5 goals where Birendra Lakra, S.V.Sunil and VR Raghunath added three to the scorecard. Simon Martin-Brisac was the one who deflected the ball passed by Sebastien Jean-Jean into the Indian goal raising the goal count of the French team to 1.

A glittering handcrafted golden trophy was given to the Indian Hockey team captain and gold medals were given to the players of the team. India also won the fair play award for showing their sportsmen spirit throughout the tournament.

Sandeep Singh became the Player of the match who scored 5 goals for the native team which included a splendid hat-trick penalty shoot. He was also the highest goal scorer of the tournament shooting 16 goals into the nets. The CEO of HERO MOTORCORP presented him a beautiful bike, which he rode in the stadium. Sardar Singh, captain of the Indian hockey team became the Player of the tournament. He was awarded with a prize of Rupees 1 Lakh for the same.

With this fantastic finish Indian hockey team has proven itself as the best, and now is the moment to rejoice. But with this conquest, the expectations for Indian Hockey are enlarged. But we have to wait till the 2^nd half of this year to see these heroes once again in action and widen their feat proving themselves the best at the destination, The Olympics 2012.
